AIHP’s Annual Business Meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, November 14, 2019, at 2:00 pm Eastern Standard Time (1:00 pm Central Standard Time). The meeting will feature a special live lecture by John Swann, PhD, Historian at the US Food & Drug Administration, about the early regulation of pharmaceuticals in the United States.
The Annual Business Meeting is an opportunity for AIHP’s leaders to report about the Institute’s activities and status and to answer member questions. This year’s meeting will be streamed live on the Internet as a web conference, allowing participants to see and hear presenters and view documents and images. Information about how to logon to the meeting will be posted on the Institute’s website by early November. The information will also be emailed to members.
The live lecture by AIHP-member John Swann will investigate the history of pharmaceutical regulation in the United States during the the early twentieth century. Dr. Swann has served as the FDA’s Historian since 1989. He earned his PhD in Pharmacy and in the History of Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1985. Dr. Swann received AIHP’s Edward Kremers Award in 1989 for his book, Academic Scientists and the Pharmaceutical Industry: Cooperative Research in Twentieth-Century America. He is a member of the International Academy for the History of Pharmacy and is a past president of AIHP.
Another item of business will be presentation of a report from AIHP’s Nominations Committee. The terms of Secretary Robert Buerki and Director Catherine Taglieri will expire at the end of 2020. The AIHP Nominations Committee has re-nominated Secretary Buerki and Director Taglieri for full three-year terms. Under AIHP bylaws, any member in attendance can nominate additional candidates if seconded by two other members. The Committee’s nominees, plus any additional members nominated at the Annual Business Meeting, will be on the ballot circulated to members in 2020.
A full agenda for the meeting will be posted on the website and emailed to members in early November.
Members are encouraged to “save the date” and participate in the Annual Business Meeting!
