Each year AIHP awards Certificates of Commendation to recognize individuals or organizations whose work or actions have contributed to or promoted the history of pharmacy and pharmaceuticals in creative or innovative ways. The Institute is now accepting nominations for the 2023 Certificates of Commendation. Nominations will be accepted through August 1, 2023. The nomination form is available on AIHP’s website.
AIHP awards Certificates of Commendation to recognize activities or historical endeavors by individuals or organizations that (i) advance knowledge or understanding of the history of pharmacy and pharmaceuticals; or (ii) utilize the history of pharmacy and pharmaceuticals to entertain, inform, or educate or to address or advance understanding of contemporary issues.
Certificates of Commendation are not intended to recognize individuals for academic achievements or for peer-reviewed publications.
AIHP has awarded Certificates of Commendation to recognize a wide range of activities and projects. In 2022, for example, certificate recipients included:
- Carl Buckner, for his extensive collection of published writings on the history of pharmacy in Oklahoma, that provide a detailed and deep recounting of the history of pharmacy and pharmaceutical care in the state, from frontier times, through the territorial era, and into statehood.
- Stephen Hall, for his work as Curator and Director at the Coit Museum of Pharmacy & Health Sciences at the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy, where, as part of the museum’s renovation and expansion, he developed several innovative exhibits that use technology to present the history of pharmacy in new and fresh ways.
- The Pharmaceutical Heritage Centre, in Punjab, India, for its work to preserve and showcase the history of pharmaceuticals and medicines in India.
Completed nominations forms should be emailed to AIHP at aihp@aihp.org or mailed to the Institute’s office. AIHP expects to announce the 2023 recipients of Certificates of Commendation by early September.
