AIHP members are encouraged to attend the 45th International Congress for the History of Pharmacy, which is being held in Milan, Italy, on September 7-10, 2022. The International Congress is the biennial meeting of the International Society of the History of Pharmacy, of which AIHP is a member. This year’s meeting is being hosted by the Italian Academy of Pharmacy History.
The theme of the Congress is “Health, Beauty and Well-Being in the History of Pharmacy.” Full information about the event is available on its website. The 45th International Congress was originally scheduled for September 2021, but was rescheduled due to the COVID pandemic.
An important part of each Congress is the presentation of papers reflecting the ongoing research of historians and others interested in the history of pharmacy. Persons interested in a presenting paper should submit a brief abstract before the May 30 deadline. Further information about abstract and submission requirements are available at this link.
The preliminary program for the Congress also includes four plenary lectures, one of which will be delivered by AIHP Historical Director Lucas Richert, PhD. Dr. Richert is an Associate Professor and George Urdang Chair in the History of Pharmacy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Pharmacy.
The program also includes a meeting of the International Academy of the History of Pharmacy. At this event, Dr. Richert will formally present the 2021 George Urdang Medal to Olivier Lafont, PhD, Professor Emeritus of Medicine and Pharmacy at the University of Rouen.
Registration for the International Congress is now open at this link. The registration fee for the full event is €480 through June 30. Student registration is available for €250.
The venue for the International Congress will be the historic “Ca’ Granda” (“the big house”) building, located near Milan’s city center. Congress organizers have planned a variety of tours in and around Milan.
AIHP members planning to attend the International Congress are asked to contact the Institute’s office at aihp@aihp.org.
