AIHP Gregory J. Higby Fund

Greg Higby discusses pharmaceutical artifacts on display in Rennebohm Hall at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Pharmacy.

The AIHP Gregory J. Higby Fund was established in 2018 upon the retirement of long-time AIHP Executive Director Greg Higby. The fund recognizes Greg’s many years of services to the Institute and helps to support, maintain, manage, and expand AIHP’s historical collections.

One of the Institute’s most significant activities is the continued collection and preservation of historically important documents, images, and other materials related to the history of pharmacy. AIHP’s historical collections make the Institute a unique center for historical research in the United States about pharmacy and pharmaceuticals. The maintenance and expansion of AIHP’s historical collections will allow the Institute to continue to attract researchers and scholars interested in learning about and studying the history of pharmacy.

Tax-deductible contributions to the Higby Fund will allow the Institute to:

  1. Develop and implement a plan for managing, preserving, and expanding AIHP historical collections.
  2. Process the backlog of documents that need to be appraised and either accessioned, deposited elsewhere, or discarded.
  3. Catalog items in the collections and add the cataloged information to appropriate worldwide databases.
  4. Develop an internship/practicum program to attract graduate students in information science to assist with the work of the project.
  5. Publicize the appropriate historical and scholarly media the existence of the collections and how to access them.
