Additionally, we are thrilled to announce the recent success of HoPP’s Managing Editor, Jamie Banks, who has just begun an exciting new research fellowship at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). Jamie has been an invaluable part of the editorial team at HoPP, and whilst we are delighted to congratulate him on this new chapter, we are also pleased that he will continue one at the journal in his present role. Jamie’s dedication to advancing the fields of pharmacy, medical and health history has been a cornerstone of HoPP’s ongoing success, and we are delighted that it will continue to be so for the foreseeable future.
Be on the lookout for future issues of HoPP, arriving soon in your mailbox or through your digital access. In particular, look out for fresh perspectives and cutting-edge scholarship about [ topics ] for all who are passionate about the history of pharmacy and pharmaceuticals. Please also be sure to tell your friends and colleagues about the journal, and let’s get reading!
Interview with Jamie Banks:
How long have you been serving as Managing Editor?
I’ve been in post as the journal’s Managing Editor since January of this year (2024).
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learnt so far?
How to format a document using a template in Word. In all seriousness, though, it’s the importance of being direct. Sometimes, something just has to be done and whilst it can feel uncomfortable asking a senior colleague or an author to do it (or reminding them that they need to), it’s essential for keeping all the plates spinning.
What are you looking forward to most at the journal in the next few years?
The fantastic special issues we’ve got coming up in the next few issues of HoPP. In addition to an AIHP-led special issue on Community Pharmacy, we’ve also got some excellent ones on medieval pharmaceutical commodities, and the modern intersections of health/beauty in the context of pharmacies, for you to look forward to. On a more selfish note, I am also looking forward to hopefully meeting-up the rest of the editorial team in Madison next year!
The AIHP has begun its end-of-year gift-giving campaign to bring an end to 2024! All of the staff and the AIHP Board of Directors wish to heartily thank those members and friends who have supported the campaign with their generosity in the past and are considering the AIHP again.
Last year, as part of the effort to create awareness and support for our end-of-year campaign, the AIHP instituted a prize draw for one lucky contributor to our campaign. The winner received a one-of-a-kind specially framed print from our collections.
The end-of-year gift-giving campaign, which ran from September to December, was dedicated to AIHP Collections. The generous donations enabled the AIHP staff to purchase new scanning and computer equipment to assist in carrying out digitization efforts in 2024 and afterward.
In 2024, AIHP staff have again identified key areas for members and supporters to contribute once. Those areas are meant to help us “kickstart AIHP,” “enhance our collections,” and “connect and share” with our members and the public.
As a gesture of our gratitude, everyone who submits a pledge by email or donates over $83.00 will be entered into a drawing for a select AIHP framed print.
(Why 83? That’s the age of AIHP, of course.)
The AIHP would like to recognize and thank our sustaining members. A very big thank you from us to you!
