At AIHP, we believe that our people are what make us truly special. Today, we’re excited to introduce you to one of the amazing individuals who gives their time and talent to the Institute. Meet Mihini Gamamadagedon, one of our three summer interns.
Mihini is an undergraduate student at the University of Wisconsin – Madison majoring in pharamcology and toxicology who wants to become a pharmacist. Mihini has worked with us in the past working on an oral history project on cannabis.
What excites you about your internship at AIHP?
I’m really excited to return and work with such a passionate team. I’ve always enjoyed sharing AIHP’s mission—there’s so much important work being done here, and I love being part of something with such a meaningful legacy.
What is special to you about our current collections projects?
Right now, I’m helping shape AIHP’s social media presence, which is a great way to connect more people with its work. My previous project was an oral archive on cannabis, and I found it fascinating to hear such a wide range of perspectives and see the real-world impact those stories had.
Have you encountered anything in the collections that you found to be particularly exciting to work with or want to share with the public?
AIHP’s collections are filled with stories that reflect decades of dedication. It’s exciting to explore materials that connect the past to the present and help share those histories with others.
The AIHP is over eighty years old, and you can still see the traces of people who have contributed time and effort into its mission. What mark do you hope to leave on the Institute?
I hope to make AIHP’s work more accessible and engaging—especially to new and younger audiences—by strengthening its digital presence and helping preserve its legacy in ways that resonate today.
