The American Institute of the History of Pharmacy is pleased to announce that starting January 1, 2021, AIHP will become cosponsor of the popular academic group blog Points. Founded in 2011, Points has been the official blog of the Alcohol & Drugs History Society (ADHS), a peer organization of AIHP.

Going forward, ADHS and AIHP will jointly sponsor Points, which publishes two to three original posts per week. AIHP Historical Director Lucas Richert explains that “This collaboration is a necessary one, given the overlap between illicit ‘drugs’ and legal ‘medications.”‘ AIHP is excited to bring new voices, new perspectives, and new institutional support to Points and the blog’s commentaries about the history of alcohol, drugs, medicines, pharmacy, and pharmaceuticals.

The mission of Points is to “bring together scholars with wide-ranging expertise for the goal of producing original and thoughtful reflections on the history of alcohol, drugs, medicines, pharmacy, and pharmaceuticals; the web of policy surrounding them; and their place in popular culture.” Points publishes posts of about 500–1,500 words and seeks to “provide a space for the exchange of new ideas, insights, and speculations about our interdisciplinary and rapidly evolving field.”

ADHS and AIHP will responsible for jointly administering and publishing Points. AIHP Assistant Director and Senior Editor of History of Pharmacy and Pharmaceuticals Greg Bond will represent AIHP as one co-Managing Editor of Points. ADHS and the editors of its journal Social History of Alcohol and Drugs will soon appoint a Digital Media Editor who will represent ADHS and be the second co-Managing Editor of Points.

Points also publishes book reviews, interviews with authors, pedagogical articles, and posts about other topics related to the history of alcohol, drugs, medicines, pharmacy, and pharmaceuticals.

AIHP sends enormous thanks to Emily Dufton, the recently retired Managing Editor of Points, for all of her help, assistance, and sage words during this transition.

Please be on the lookout for exciting new content at Points; explore the blog’s archives; and, if you have an idea for a post for Points, please email Greg Bond at gregory.bond@aihp.org!
