Over the past half century, no member has contributed more to the Institute or the field of the pharmacy history in the United States. Through the generous financial support of Robert and Leslie Buerki, the George Urdang Chair in the History of Pharmacy was endowed, earning Bob the prestigious Robert P. Fischelis Award in 2020, along with graduate fellowships at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Pharmacy. Beyong his philanthropy, Bob’s enthusiasm, dedication, and scholarship left a lasting impact on the field and the Institute.
Together with his friend Louis Vottero, he championed the teaching of pharmacy ethics in historical context through their co-authored book, Ethical Responsibility in Pharmacy Practice. For many years, Bob and Lou were fixtures at APhA conventions, where they staffed the Institute’s booth and welcomed new members.
