Raise a Toast to the Managing Editor of HoPP

9/16/2024 — AIHP Release

History of Pharmacy and Pharmaceuticals, the AIHP’s flagship journal, is a team effort and requires a steady hand on the tiller. One of the key members of that team is Dr. Jamie Banks, HoPP’s Managing Editor.

The AIHP is thrilled to announce the recent success of Dr. Banks, who has just begun an exciting new research fellowship at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). Jamie has become an integral part of HoPP in recent months. AIHP is delighted to congratulate him on this new chapter at LSHTM and is equally glad that he will continue at the journal in his present role for the foreseeable future.

As we celebrate Jamie, also be on the lookout for future issues of HoPP, arriving soon in your mailbox or through your digital access. In particular, look out for fresh perspectives and cutting-edge scholarship in the history of pharmacy and pharmaceuticals. Please also be sure to tell your friends and colleagues about the journal, and let’s get reading!

Interview with Jamie Banks:

How long have you been serving as Managing Editor?
I’ve been in post as the journal’s Managing Editor since January of this year (2024).

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learnt so far?
How to format a document using a template in Word. In all seriousness, though, it’s the importance of being direct. Sometimes, something just has to be done and whilst it can feel uncomfortable asking a senior colleague or an author to do it (or reminding them that they need to), it’s essential for keeping all the plates spinning.

What are you looking forward to most at the journal in the next few years?
The fantastic special issues we’ve got coming up in the next few issues of HoPP. In addition to an AIHP-led special issue on Community Pharmacy, we’ve also got some excellent ones on medieval pharmaceutical commodities, and the modern intersections of health/beauty in the context of pharmacies, for you to look forward to. On a more selfish note, I am also looking forward to hopefully meeting-up the rest of the editorial team in Madison next year!

Actively engaged in preserving the documents of pharmacy's past and developing materials for understanding the future.
