Discover the remarkable life of Ella P. Stewart, a pioneering African American pharmacist and civil rights leader, through the recently featured JSTOR Daily article, “Toledo’s Most Singular Pharmacist.” Stewart, the first Black female graduate of the University of Pittsburgh pharmacy school documented her life in a series of scrapbooks. These scrapbooks now make up the Ella P. Stewart Scrapbooks Collection in the archive at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Portions of these scrapbooks have been digitized and are available for viewing on Reveal Digital, JSTOR’s initiative that develops open primary source collections from under-represented 20th-century voices, as part of their Behind the Scenes of the Civil Rights Movements Collection.
