April 8 & 9: Dr. Jason Perepelkin Presents

AIHP Pharmacy & Society Speaker Series
Pharmacy Fatigue & Burnout with Dr. Jason Perepelkin
Tuesday, April 8th
4:00 pm Central

Along with expanding the scope-of-practice for pharmacists comes increased responsibilities. While most pharmacists welcome the opportunity to practice in a more clinical manner, the traditional demands of practice remain. As a result, pharmacists are expected to do more, and many times are not provided with any additional resources to help. As a result, is it any surprise that the incidences of burnout are increasing?

In this talk, Dr. Perepelkin will highlight some of the work he’s done on burnout and work engagement with pharmacists and management/leadership.

Ketamine Therapy & Pharmacy with Dr. Jason Perepelkin
Wednesday, April 9th
3:00 pm Central

Ketamine has gained substantial interest as a novel antidepressant and has demonstrated rapid, robust, and transient antidepressant effects in patients with difficult-to-treat depression (DTD), which has also been referred to as treatment-resistant depression (TRD). While more research has been done on the effectiveness of ketamine for a variety of conditions (e.g., major depressive disorder, PTSD), the information available to those with an interest is limited; the limitations are that much of the information is clinical in nature, which can be difficult for the layperson to interpret, and the information is available behind paywalls. Furthermore, information freely accessible, many times available on for-profit clinic websites, is potentially biased as the positive aspects of the treatment are disproportionally featured with little to no information on potential negative aspects of ketamine treatment.

In this presentation, Dr. Perepelkin will present results from his study where he interviewed 20 patients who received IV ketamine for DTD; he will also show a patient information booklet he and colleagues developed for people wondering about IV ketamine treatment.
