Many pieces of popular music are related to pharmacy, medicines or the drug store. So far, over 1000 titles have been identified and collected in a “pharmacy playlist”. The role of the pharmacist and the institution of the of the pharmacy are sung about in songs, as are various drugs from a wide range of drug groups: from antitussives and contraceptives to antimycotics.
Numerous dosage forms and aspects of drug production, such as percolation, are also represented. The musical pieces are drawn from a wide cross-section of musical genres, e.g., pop, pop, rock, county, rap, hip-hop, metal. The lecture discusses exemplary representatives of the “pharmaceutical playlist” with examples of lyrics and music.
