  • Location: Madison, WI (hybrid/remote options by agreement)
  • Reports to: Executive Director
  • Start Date: January 5, 2026
  • Status: 70-80% FTE (28-32 hrs/week)
  • Salary: Negotiable based on experience

Who We Are

Founded in 1941 and headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin, the American Institute of the History of Pharmacy (AIHP) documents and preserves the heritage of pharmacy and supports research into the history of pharmacy, drug research, and the societal uses of medicines. AIHP collaborates with professional associations, educational institutions, and museums to advance historical understanding and professional development in the field. Learn more at aihp.org.

Position Overview

The Development Officer supports, develops, and executes fundraising initiatives to advance AIHP’s mission and goals. The role includes researching, prospecting, cultivating, and managing donor relationships, coordinating fundraising activities, and managing all incoming donations. The position also implements day-to-day communications in alignment with the Board of Directors and Executive Director, and collaborates with staff to develop and promote AIHP’s archives and library, programming, and publications—engaging directly with members and friends of AIHP.

Qualifications

  • Social media marketing experience (preferred)
  • Digital marketing/SEO experience (preferred)
  • Mass email campaign experience
  • Phone answering/managment experience
  • Execllent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with integrity and confidentiality
  • Innovative approach to team support and workflow improvement
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook; experience with WordPress, Canvas, Later (preferred)
  • Organized, punctual, reliable; adaptable and calm under pressure
  • Self-motivated; able to work independently and collaboratively

Essential Responsibilities

Fundraising (100%) – Provide leadership, support, and execution in fundraising, grant writing, and membership development. Steward donor relationships; lead donor database efforts, plan events, manage interns, develop and promote campaigns, research donors, and submit funding proposals. Lead community engagement, maintain relationships with stakeholders, and maintain accurate records of donations/grants. Collaborate across staff and Board; analyze data to identify growth opportunities.
