Job Opportunity – The AIHP is Looking for a Development Officer

The American Institute of the History of Pharmacy is searching for a fundraiser to assist us in the months and years ahead!

JOB SUMMARY: The Development Officer (50% FTE) is responsible for supporting, developing, and executing fundraising initiatives and programs to help achieve AIHP’s overall mission and goals. This position reports to the Executive Director and involves researching, prospecting, cultivating and managing relationships with donors, as well as coordinating fundraising activities. This position is responsible for implementing the day-to-day communications-related affairs of AIHP in accordance with the policies, directives, and decisions of the Board of Directors and the Executive Director. They will collaborate with the AIHP’s staff to develop and promote the AIHP’s archives and library, in addition to its programming and publications; they will interact with AIHP members and friends.

SCOPE & TERMS: Reporting to the Executive Director. Start date is July 1, 2025. The position is a 50% role, meaning no more than 20 hours per week. It is a fixed term role for six months and renewable thereafter, based on performance. Limited travel costs will be reimbursed after consultation and discussion with the AIHP Executive Director. The AIHP has initiated a period in which raising capital is a key priority over a five-year time horizon and the expectation is that the Development Officer will regularly report on established targets. The salary will be negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS: Social media marketing experience – preferred; Digital marketing campaigns – SEO experience preferred; Mass Email campaigns; Phone answering/phone management experience; Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Ability to handle sensitive information with integrity and confidentiality; Innovative with Team Support processes and improving workflow; Proficient in Excel, Word, Outlook; WordPress, Canva, Later experience – preferred; Great team player as well as organized, punctual, and reliable. Adaptable and able to maintain a calm demeanor under pressure; Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides leadership and support in fundraising, grant-writing, and membership development. Cultivates and stewards relationships with donors and collectors. Leads and supports the donor database, planning events, managing interns, developing, and promoting campaign messages, researching donors, and submitting funding proposals. Offers leadership in strategic planning, with an eye monitoring and evaluating development programs. Leads community engagement, building, and maintaining effective relationships with community stakeholders while promoting the AIHP’s mission. Maintains accurate records of donations, grants, and donor information, and analyzes data to identify opportunities for growth. Collaborates with other AIHP staff and Board of Directors.
